Local H was co-founded in 1990 in Zion, Illinois, by guitarist and vocalist Scott Lucas, who has remained the band’s sole consistent member. Initially a four-piece, the band solidified into an unorthodox two-piece setup with Lucas and drummer Joe Daniels, with Lucas modifying his guitar to cover bass frequencies. Within four years, they signed with Island Records, releasing their debut album, “Ham Fisted,” in 1995. Despite initial struggles, their second album, “As Good as Dead” (1996), became a commercial success, selling over 320,000 copies and featuring the radio hit “Bound for the Floor,” which peaked at No. 5 on the US Alternative Billboard Chart. This breakthrough established their presence in the alternative rock scene.

Their third album, “Pack Up the Cats” (1998), received critical acclaim, appearing on several year-end best-of lists. However, its commercial performance was impacted by a corporate merger involving Island’s parent company, PolyGram, leading to disrupted promotion. Following Daniels’ departure in 1999, Brian St. Clair joined as drummer, and the band continued to release albums like “Here Comes the Zoo” (2002) and “Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles?” (2004). By March 2002, Local H’s first three albums collectively sold 600,000 copies. Since 1992, the band has been based in Chicago, maintaining a consistent touring schedule and engaging with their fanbase through unique live show concepts.

In 2013, Ryan Harding took over on drums after Brian St. Clair’s amicable departure. The duo released “Hey, Killer” in 2015 and “Lifers” in 2020. Local H has maintained a reputation for energetic live performances and innovative fan engagement, including their “Request Tour” where setlists were chosen by audience ballots, and a drive-in concert during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2017, they opened for Metallica on five dates of their WorldWired tour, a testament to their lasting impact on the rock music landscape. Their career has been marked by resilience and a dedication to their distinct sound.
