About

Lola Kirke was born on September 27, 1990, in London, England. Her father, Simon Kirke, is known as the drummer for the rock bands Bad Company and Free, while her mother, Lorraine Kirke, is a fashion designer. The family relocated to New York City when Lola was five years old, where she was raised. She pursued higher education at Bard College, graduating in 2012. Kirke’s acting career began with a supporting role in the 2014 David Fincher film “Gone Girl,” followed by her breakout role as Hailey Rutledge in the Amazon Studios television series “Mozart in the Jungle,” which ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. During this period, she also starred in the comedy film “Mistress America” (2015) alongside Greta Gerwig. In 2017, she appeared in the neo-noir mystery film “Gemini” and the action-comedy “American Made” with Tom Cruise. Her acting credits continued with “Untogether” (2018), where she appeared opposite her sister Jemima Kirke, “Lost Girls” (2020), screened at the Sundance Film Festival, and a role in the HBO series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” (2022).

Beyond her acting endeavors, Kirke has established a music career, releasing her first EP in 2016. Her debut album, “Heart Head West,” was launched in 2018 by Downtown Records. She continued to evolve her musical style, signing with Third Man Records in 2021 and releasing her sophomore album, “Lady for Sale,” in April 2022. This album earned critical acclaim for its unique blend of country-informed pop/rock. In 2024, she released the EP “Country Curious,” produced by Elle King, featuring collaborations with artists like First Aid Kit and Rosanne Cash, and made her Grand Ole Opry debut. Her third full-length album, “Trailblazer,” produced by GRAMMY winner Daniel Tashian, was released in 2025 and lauded by publications such as the Tennessean and Rolling Stone. Kirke is also an author, with her debut book, “Wild West Village: Not a Memoir—Unless I Win an Oscar, Die Tragically, or Score a Country #1,” published by Simon & Schuster in 2025.

Kirke is also recognized for her activism, notably wearing a “Fuck Paul Ryan” pin at the 2017 Golden Globes to protest the defunding of Planned Parenthood, demonstrating her commitment to women’s rights. Her work in both film and music consistently features strong artistic merit and often highlights female empowerment. She has intentionally sought to normalize female presence in typically male-dominated fields, such as her all-female backing band in live performances. This dedication to her craft and her advocacy make her a compelling figure across entertainment and social causes.
