Born on November 6, 1984, in East Dallas, Texas, Benjamin Beauregard Burgess was immersed in music from an early age. His father, a guitarist and songwriter, and his mother, a DJ, introduced him to a wide range of musical genres, including Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Ray Charles, Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra, and James Taylor. This diverse exposure contributed to his unique songwriting approach, which focuses on ‘life songs’ rather than just lifestyle themes. Burgess’s early career involved songwriting in Los Angeles, where he initially focused on pop music. He later found his passion aligned more closely with country music, appreciating its depth and honesty in addressing topics like heartbreak.
In 2014, Burgess moved to Nashville, Tennessee, a pivotal step that led to securing a publishing deal shortly after. This move marked a significant turning point, allowing him to cultivate his country music career. As a songwriter, he achieved notable success, contributing to hits for artists such as Jonas Brothers’ “Chillin’ in the Summertime” in 2010, Martin Garrix and Troye Sivan’s “There for You,” Morgan Wallen’s “Whiskey Glasses,” and Tyler Rich’s “The Difference.” His collaborations also extended to Florida Georgia Line and The Cadillac Three. His consistent work and success as a songwriter for artists under Big Loud Records eventually led to his own artist debut.
In 2022, Burgess released his official full-length label debut album, “Tears the Size of Texas,” at the age of 37, through Big Loud Records. The album was influenced by classic cowboy records and Western films, showcasing his distinct contemporary country sound with a ‘world-weary delivery.’ He continued to release new music, including singles like “Dive Bar” in 2023, and “Lucky” and “Great Again” in 2024. He has also released music videos for various tracks including “Ask” (2025) and “Tears the Size of Texas” (2022). Burgess has performed live, including appearances with Koe Wetzel and Jelly Roll, and an October 2022 show with Warren Zeiders.
