Marcus Mumford is a British singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer known best for being the lead vocalist of Mumford & Sons. Born on January 31, 1987, in California, Marcus grew up in London where he developed a strong penchant for music and began playing the guitar at a young age.
Marcus’s musical journey began in his teenage years when he joined his first band, Laura Marling and the Reels, with whom he played the drums. He then went on to form the band Mumford & Sons in 2007 with his friends Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane, and Winston Marshall, where he assumed the role of the lead singer and played a myriad of instruments including the guitar, mandolin, and percussion instruments.
Mumford & Sons’ debut album, Sigh No More, which was released in 2009, was a tremendous success. It peaked at number 2 on the UK charts, as well as earning the band a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize. They then released their second and third albums, Babel and Wilder Mind, which cemented their position as one of the most prominent folk rock bands globally.
Marcus has also produced music for a number of notable artists including Ellie Goulding, The Vaccines, and Laura Marling, and has collaborated with various musicians such as The New Basement Tapes and the folk supergroup, The Lost Fingers.
Beyond his musical career, Marcus is also known for his marriage to actress Carey Mulligan, whom he met while on tour in Nashville in 2011. The couple has since welcomed their two children, Evelyn and Wilfred.
Despite his success, Marcus remains humble and dedicated to making music that touches people’s hearts. His unwavering passion and talent have earned him critical acclaim and a place amongst the most respected musicians of our time.
