About

McFly is a British pop rock band that originated in London in 2003. The band’s name is a tribute to Marty McFly, a character from the film “Back to the Future.” The lineup consists of Tom Fletcher on lead vocals, guitar, and piano; Danny Jones on lead vocals, harmonica, and guitar; Dougie Poynter on bass guitar and vocals; and Harry Judd on drums. Initially signed to Island Records, the band later established their own label, Super Records, in 2007. Their debut album, “Room on the 3rd Floor,” released in 2004, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and was certified double platinum, earning them a Guinness World Record as the youngest band to achieve a number one debut album.

The band’s second album, “Wonderland,” also topped the UK charts in 2005, making them the youngest band to achieve two number one albums. This period saw them win a Brit Award for Best British Pop Act in 2005. McFly’s third album, “Motion in the Ocean” (2006), continued their success with multiple top 10 singles. They expanded their reach into the United States with an appearance in the 2006 film “Just My Luck,” starring Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine, for which they also contributed to the soundtrack. The band released a greatest hits album in 2007, followed by their fourth studio album, “Radio:Active,” in 2008, initially distributed for free with The Mail on Sunday before a conventional release.

In 2013, McFly collaborated with members of the band Busted to form the supergroup McBusted, undertaking extensive tours and releasing a self-titled album that charted in the UK Top 10. After a period of focusing on solo projects, McFly reunited, releasing “The Lost Songs” in 2019 and their sixth studio album, “Young Dumb Thrills,” in 2020, which peaked at number two on the UK charts. Their seventh album, “Power to Play,” was released in 2023. Throughout their career, McFly has achieved 18 consecutive UK top 20 singles, with seven reaching number one in the UK Singles Chart, accumulating over 10 million records sold worldwide. In 2025, they are scheduled to embark on the “Busted vs McFly Tour,” marking their first joint tour with Busted in that configuration since McFly’s inception.
