Brittnee Moore, professionally known as Bbymutha, was born on September 15, 1989, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her early life was spent navigating a turbulent adolescence, including moving to Pensacola at age 12, a psychiatric ward diagnosis of depression and ADHD, and a return to Chattanooga. She began writing poetry in fourth grade and developed an interest in music and performance from elementary school. After forming a group during her tenth grade and later performing as Cindyy Kushh, she adopted the stage name Bbymutha. She started her solo music career by releasing her “first official song” titled “Slut” on SoundCloud. This early work laid the foundation for her independent trajectory in the music industry.

Bbymutha’s career gained significant momentum in 2017 following the viral success of her track “Rules.” The song’s music video, released in August, brought her widespread attention, including recognition from prominent R&B artists SZA and Kehlani, and was featured in a DJ set by Björk. The track also made it into FADER’s “101 best songs of 2017” and was later included in the soundtrack of the Hulu original series “Ramy” in 2019. Throughout 2018, she released several EPs, including ‘Muthaz Day 2’, ‘BbyShoe’, and ‘Free Brittnee’, all of which received positive reviews from music publications like Pitchfork. Her music has also been featured in the Netflix series “Dear White People.” In 2020, her debut studio album, ‘Muthaland’, was released to critical acclaim, followed by a series of EPs including ‘Muthaleficient 2’ and ‘The Bastard Tapes, Vol. 3’ in 2021, and ‘sleep paralysis’ in 2024.

Beyond her musical achievements, Bbymutha has maintained an independent career path, choosing to focus on connecting with her audience directly rather than through major labels. She has performed at events such as Toronto Pride in June 2018. Her work is characterized by witty writing and expressive songwriting, often reflecting her life experiences and Southern hip-hop influences, particularly from artists like Gucci Mane, Trina, La Chat, and Gangsta Boo. In addition to music, she ventured into entrepreneurship with Mutha Magick Apothecary, selling custom products and planning a physical store, demonstrating her diverse creative and business interests.
