Mf Robots

MF Robots (Music For Robots) is a music project established by Jan Kincaid and Dawn Joseph. Jan Kincaid, known as the original drummer, songwriter, and producer for the Brand New Heavies, met vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dawn Joseph when she joined the Brand New Heavies in 2013. Their collaboration began almost immediately, leading to songwriting within their first week of working together. This creative synergy resulted in a significant volume of new material.

Following the release of the album “Sweet Freaks” with the Brand New Heavies, Kincaid and Joseph decided to depart from the group. They subsequently formed MF Robots. The name of the project, Music For Robots, reflects a commentary on various aspects of contemporary music. Dawn Joseph’s contributions are central to the group’s sound, characterized by her vocal performances and a musical background that includes collaborations with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Michael McDonald, and CeeLo Green. Her stage presence is also marked by her self-designed attire. The musical style of MF Robots draws influences from soul music traditions, aiming for a contemporary sound rather than a direct revival.

Jan Kincaid noted his immediate appreciation for Joseph’s voice upon hearing her perform. Joseph’s influences include artists such as Anita Baker, Gladys Knight, and Whitney Houston, which inform her approach to modern soul music. The band’s formation represents a transition from their previous engagements to an independent creative direction, focusing on their collaborative output and performance.
