Midtown is a celebrated American pop-punk band that emerged from New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1998. Formed by Rutgers University students Gabe Saporta, Rob Hitt, and Tyler Rann, the group quickly expanded to include guitarist Heath Saraceno. With a sound that masterfully blended pop-punk and punk rock, Midtown made a significant impact on the music scene, releasing three full-length studio albums and three EPs before their initial disbandment in 2005. Their debut album, “Save the World, Lose the Girl,” released in 2000, showcased their energetic style and lyrical depth, establishing them as a prominent act in the genre.
Following their major label debut with MCA Records for the album “Living Well Is the Best Revenge” in 2002, Midtown continued to evolve their sound. Their final studio album, “Forget What You Know,” was released in 2004 and later picked up by Columbia Records, further solidifying their reputation. The band’s ability to capture the essence of youth and rebellion resonated with fans, leading to a loyal following that persists to this day.
In 2014, Midtown reunited for a series of performances, including a secret show at The Knitting Factory and appearances at the Skate and Surf Festival. Their resurgence continued in 2022 as they opened for My Chemical Romance on their reunion tour, thrilling audiences with their nostalgic hits and new material.
The members of Midtown have also pursued successful projects post-disbandment. Gabe Saporta formed the alternative dance band Cobra Starship, achieving commercial success with hits like “Bring It (Snakes on a Plane).” Heath Saraceno joined Senses Fail, while Rob Hitt ventured into management and record label ownership. Midtown’s enduring legacy and continued activity in the music scene highlight their significant contributions to pop-punk and their lasting influence on the genre.
