BOJ, an English-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, is a recognized pioneer of the Alté music scene, blending Afrobeats, pop, and rap into unique genre-hybrids. After launching his solo career with the mixtape #BOTM on February 21, 2014, which featured the track ‘Bolaji On The Microphone,’ BOJ quickly gained industry recognition, earning the Best Alternative Song award at the 9th Headies Awards in December 2014. A recognized pioneer of the Alté music scene, BOJ began his musical journey in 2007 as a member of the group DRB LasGidi alongside Teezee and Fresh L. He pursued studies in Business Management and Audio Engineering before returning to Lagos in 2015, where he continued to define a new movement emphasizing individuality and creative freedom.
BOJ further solidified his presence by signing a recording contract with HF Music in July 2016, leading to his debut album Magic in October 2017. He is also credited with coining the term ‘Alté’ in his 2014 song ‘Paper,’ which became the defining descriptor for the genre. Building on this momentum, BOJ released the collaborative EP Make E No Cause Fight with Ajebutter22 in 2018. The same year, he partnered with Jameson Irish Whiskey for their ‘Smooth Taste, That’s Why’ campaign, expanding his brand reach.
BOJ’s artistic approach, characterized by originality and boundary-pushing, continues to contribute significantly to the vibrant cultural movement in Nigeria, where creativity is celebrated across music, art, and fashion.
