Bolaji Odojukan, known as BOJ, was born in London in 1994 and spent his formative years between the UK and Nigeria. His early exposure to diverse artists like Lauryn Hill, Lagbaja, and Wyclef, thanks to his parents, shaped his musical foundation. He pursued studies in Business Management and Audio Engineering at university before returning to Lagos in 2015. His musical journey began in 2007 when he joined the group DRB LasGidi with school friends Teezee and Fresh L, becoming an integral part of a new movement emphasizing individuality and creative freedom within Nigerian youth culture.

BOJ officially launched his solo career with the mixtape “#BOTM” released on February 21, 2014, featuring “Bolaji On The Microphone,” which earned him the Best Alternative Song award at the ninth Headies Awards in December 2014. He further solidified his presence in the music industry by signing a recording contract with HF Music in July 2016, leading to his debut album “Magic” in October 2017. Throughout his career, BOJ has been instrumental in defining the Alté movement, even coining the term in his 2014 song “Paper,” which quickly became a descriptor for the genre’s fluid and alternative expression. His collaborations with various artists and his continuous release of both group and solo projects demonstrate his ongoing influence.

His career also includes significant collaborations and album releases such as “Pioneers” with DRB in 2020, and solo projects like “Abracadabra” with Davido and Mr Eazi. In 2021, he released “Money & Laughter” featuring Zamir and Amaarae and appeared on Dave’s album “We’re All Alone in This Together.” His 2022 album, “Gbagada Express,” showcased a broad range of guest artists, including Wizkid, Fireboy DML, and Tiwa Savage, further cementing his status as a key figure in African music. BOJ’s artistic approach emphasizes originality and boundary-pushing, contributing to a new cultural movement in Nigeria where creativity is celebrated across music, art, and fashion.
