Miguel Bosé, born Luis Miguel Luchino González Borlani on April 3, 1956, in Panama City, Panama, is a Spanish-Italian singer and actor. His early life was influenced by figures like Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway, who were family friends. He commenced his acting career in 1971, seeking work based on his talent rather than his family connections. Bosé pursued studies in acting, dancing, and singing. Due to limited acting roles, he began exploring singing in 1975, recording his first singles with assistance from Camilo Sesto. In 1977, he secured a contract with CBS Records, releasing his debut album “Linda,” which produced a hit single of the same name. Between 1977 and 1982, Bosé gained recognition as a teen idol across Italy, Spain, Southern Europe, and Latin America, with seven top ten hits.
In 1984, Bosé shifted his musical direction toward a more mature audience with the album “Bandido.” This album featured songs such as “Sevilla” and “Amante bandido,” which topped charts in Spain and Latin America. The music video for “Amante bandido” was widely seen, portraying Bosé in dual roles. His album cover for “Bandido” drew comparisons to David Bowie’s “Aladdin Sane.” He achieved further success in Italy, winning Festivalbar three times, a significant musical event. In 2007, to commemorate his 30-year career, he released “Papito,” an album featuring collaborations with artists like Shakira, Laura Pausini, Michael Stipe, Gloria Gaynor, Ricky Martin, and Paulina Rubio. This album included remakes of his earlier songs and earned him the Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award in the same year.
Bosé continued his musical endeavors with the album “Papitwo” in 2012, which also featured collaborations with musicians such as Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, Pablo Alborán, and Penélope Cruz. In 2013, he was honored as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. His career progression includes significant roles in film and television, with notable appearances in movies like “High Heels” (1991) and “La Reina Margot” (1994). In 2016, he released “Bosé MTV Unplugged,” a live album with duets. He received Colombian citizenship in 2010 due to his peace efforts in the country. Throughout his career, Bosé has been noted for his multilingual abilities, being fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
