Myles Richard Bass, known professionally as Myles Kennedy, was born on November 27, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts. He spent his early childhood in Northern Idaho before moving to Spokane, Washington, where he was raised in a Christian Science family. His father passed away when Kennedy was four, and his mother later remarried, with the family adopting the surname Kennedy. His musical journey began early, playing trumpet at age ten and transitioning to guitar, inspired by artists like Led Zeppelin. He studied music theory at Spokane Falls Community College, which formed the foundation for his diverse musical career.
Kennedy’s professional career commenced in 1990 as the lead guitarist for the instrumental jazz ensemble Cosmic Dust, releasing their album “Journey” in 1991. He then co-founded Citizen Swing, where he served as both lead vocalist and lead guitarist, releasing two albums: “Cure Me with the Groove” (1993) and “Deep Down” (1995). Following this, he formed The Mayfield Four in 1995, releasing “Fallout” (1998) and “Second Skin” (2001) before the band disbanded in 2002. During this period, Kennedy also made a notable appearance in the 2001 drama film “Rock Star.” Initially declining an offer to front Velvet Revolver in 2002, he was later recruited by Mark Tremonti in late 2003 to form Alter Bridge, formally joining in 2004. With Alter Bridge, he has released seven studio albums, starting with “One Day Remains” (2004).
Beyond Alter Bridge, Kennedy’s collaborations have significantly shaped his career. In 2008, he had an informal jam session with former Led Zeppelin members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham. The following year, he began working with Slash, featuring on Slash’s 2010 eponymous solo album and subsequently becoming the touring vocalist for Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. This collaboration led to four studio albums, including “Apocalyptic Love” (2012) and “World on Fire” (2014). Kennedy also launched a successful solo career with albums like “Year of the Tiger” (2018), “The Ides of March” (2021), and “The Art of Letting Go” (2024), showcasing his versatility and songwriting. He is actively involved in charity work, co-founding the Future Song Foundation and supporting wildlife conservation.
