About

Sage Gabriel Carlos Atreyu Elsesser, born on January 31, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, first gained recognition as a professional skateboarder. He began his professional skateboarding career in 2014 at the age of 17, aligning with the skater collective and clothing brand Fucking Awesome. During this period, Elsesser also forged partnerships with prominent skater fashion brands such as Converse and Supreme, solidifying his presence within the skateboarding community and fashion circles.

Transitioning into the music industry under the moniker Navy Blue, Elsesser demonstrated his multifaceted artistic abilities. He started releasing EPs in 2015 and quickly began rapping and producing for notable artists including Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Armand Hammer, and Wiki. In 2015, he also took on the art direction for Earl Sweatshirt’s album *I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside*. His musical career progressed significantly in 2020 with the founding of his independent record label, Freedom Sounds, through which he released his debut studio album, *Àdá Irin*, on February 4, 2020. This was followed by *Song of Sage: Post Panic!* in 2020 and *Navy’s Reprise* in 2021.

In 2022, Elsesser expanded his discography with the *Saga of Sage* quadrilogy vinyl boxset, comprising *Song of Sage: Post Panic!*, *Gift of Gabriel: Rain’s Reign!*, *Crypt of Carlos: Onward!*, and *Arc of Atreyu: Neverending!*, with the latter three exclusively released in physical format. His career saw a significant development in 2023 when he signed with Def Jam Recordings, releasing the lead single “Chosen” on March 10, followed by his seventh studio album, *Ways of Knowing*, on March 23. This album was released under Freedom Sounds, licensed to Def Jam Recordings. In 2024, Navy Blue released his eighth album, *Memoirs in Armour*, on August 2, after departing from Def Jam.
