Kenneth La’ron Beasley, known professionally as KennyHoopla, was born on August 5, 1997, in Cleveland, Ohio. He relocated to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, as a child, spending his formative years navigating between both cities. His early musical interest was sparked around the age of ten, when he recorded a freestyle rap on a cassette toy, as recalled in an interview with DIY magazine. This early exposure to music laid the foundation for his future career, which began with independently sharing his work online.
KennyHoopla initiated his music career in 2016 by posting songs on SoundCloud. His debut EP, “Beneath the Willow Tree,” released on October 5, 2016, garnered attention from various music blogs, marking him as an emerging artist. The track “Cave” from this period notably became his most streamed song on the platform at the time. In the following years, he released commercial singles such as “Waves” in 2017 and “Sickness” in 2018. The release of “Lost Cause” in February 2019 significantly increased his exposure, which was followed by “Sore Loser” later that year, both receiving positive reception.
His career experienced a notable shift in 2020 with the release of “How Will I Rest in Peace if I’m Buried by a Highway?” This song became his most popular to date, accumulating over a million views on YouTube and reaching number 8 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. The subsequent EP of the same name, released on May 15, 2020, received critical acclaim for its blend of indie rock, hip hop, pop punk, and drum and bass elements. Collaborations with high-profile artists became a feature of his work, including a reworked version of “Lost Cause” with Grandson in August 2020 and a track with Travis Barker, “Estella,” released in November 2020. In 2021, he released “Hollywood Sucks” featuring Travis Barker and announced the mixtape “Survivors Guilt: The Mixtape.” He also undertook supporting tours with Yungblud in 2021 and Machine Gun Kelly on his “Tickets to My Downfall” U.S. tour, and later supported Blink-182 on their World Tour in 2023-2024.
