NewSong had a record deal with Reunion Records for several of their albums, including 'The Christmas Shoes'.

Newsong was formed in 1981 at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia. The group independently released three custom albums before signing with Covenant Records in 1982, and then Canaan Records in 1984, a branch of Word Records. Early releases included “The Son In My Eyes” (1983) and “The Word” (1984). The group continued to release music through various labels, including DaySpring Records and Benson Music Group, achieving several No. 1 hits with albums like “All Around The World” (1993) and “People Get Ready” (1994). Key members during this period included Eddie Carswell, Billy Goodwin, Eddie Middleton, and Bobby Apon.
A turning point for Newsong occurred around 2000 with the release of the bonus track “The Christmas Shoes” on their album “Sheltering Tree.” This song became a No. 1 mainstream radio hit on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart in three weeks. The success led to a full studio Christmas album of the same name and a Grammy Award nomination in 2003 for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. “The Christmas Shoes” also inspired a book by Donna VanLiere and a CBS TV movie starring Rob Lowe. Newsong has maintained a consistent touring schedule, often including traditional carols and original songs, and their music has frequently appeared on Christian and mainstream charts.
Beyond their musical career, Newsong is the founder of the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, which began in 1995. This event is recognized as the largest annual Christian music tour in the United States, featuring a range of prominent Christian artists. The group has also actively supported charitable organizations such as World Vision and Holt International, focusing on abandoned and underprivileged children. In 2005, Newsong was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, recognizing their long-standing contributions to music.
