About

Joseph Mulrey McIntyre was born on December 31, 1972, in Needham, Massachusetts, and grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. He began his artistic career at an early age, demonstrating a natural talent for performance. At just 12, in 1985, McIntyre joined New Kids on the Block, stepping into the spotlight as the group became a global phenomenon. The band achieved massive success, including two number-one albums on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. By 1991, Forbes recognized New Kids on the Block as the highest-earning entertainers, surpassing notable figures like Madonna and Michael Jackson. The group disbanded in 1994, leading McIntyre to explore new avenues in his career.

Following the New Kids on the Block’s initial split, McIntyre embarked on a solo music career and transitioned into acting. He independently financed his debut solo album, “Stay the Same,” which he initially sold through his website. The album’s title track gained traction through local Boston radio, eventually leading to a recording contract with Sony Music USA in 1999. “Stay the Same” went on to sell over a million copies worldwide, with the single peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. This period marked a significant turning point, establishing his viability as a solo artist. He continued to release solo albums, including “Meet Joe Mac” (2001) and “8:09” (2004), and pursued a prolific acting career.

McIntyre’s acting resume includes roles in film, television, and theater. He made his film debut in “The Fantasticks” (2000) and later appeared in productions such as “New Year’s Eve” (2011) and “The Heat” (2013). On television, he was a main cast member in “Boston Public” (2002–2003) and “The McCarthys” (2014–2015), and had recurring roles in “Fuller House” (2016–2020) and “Harvey Girls Forever!” (2018–2020). His stage work includes notable performances on Broadway as Fiyero in “Wicked” (2004–2005) and Dr. Jim Pomatter in “Waitress” (2019). The permanent reunion of New Kids on the Block in 2008 further cemented his enduring presence in the entertainment industry, alongside his continued solo projects and acting engagements.
