One Step Closer

One Step Closer, formed in 2016 by vocalist Ryan Savitski and drummer (formerly guitarist) Tommy Norton, quickly established itself as a formidable force within the melodic hardcore scene, recognized for its dynamic sound and authentic approach. The band’s early releases showcased an evolving style that blended the aggressive energy of hardcore with the emotive qualities of emo and 90s alternative rock. Their debut, the ‘O.S.C. Demo,’ was released in 2016, followed by a self-released EP, ‘One Step Closer,’ in 2017.

Guitarists Ross Thompson and later Colman O’Brien became integral to the band’s creative process, contributing to an expanding musical palette that began to incorporate elements of indie rock, post-hardcore, and shoegaze. Their discography continued to grow with the 2023 EP, ‘Songs for the Willow,’ which further showcased their ability to seamlessly integrate diverse sonic textures into their core sound. The band’s continued musical evolution is prominently featured in their most recent album, ‘All You Embrace,’ released on May 17, 2024, again through Run For Cover Records. This album features notable collaborations, including contributions from Isaac Hale of Knocked Loose and Mat Kerekes of Citizen, which allowed One Step Closer to explore new creative territories.

Critics lauded ‘All You Embrace’ for its bigger, catchier, and moodier sound, reflecting themes of loss and growth that capture personal changes experienced by the band members.
