About

Ottawan is a music band that formed in France in the late 1970s. The band was founded by two Caribbean-born musicians, Jean Patrick and Annette Eltice. Their music combines elements of disco, funk, and Caribbean rhythms. Producers Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger masterminded the group. The band is recognized as a significant act from the Disco 80 era and has shared stages with other notable groups like Boney M and Adriano Celentano.

Ottawan achieved widespread fame in 1980 with their hit single “D.I.S.C.O.,” which topped charts across Europe. They followed this success with other popular songs such as “Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)”, “You’re OK”, and “Shalala Song.” Their music reached audiences beyond France, notably in Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. “D.I.S.C.O.” peaked at number 2 in the UK in September 1980, and “Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)” reached number 3 in the UK a year later. “Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)” also held the number 1 position in New Zealand for eight weeks in 1982.

The band’s enduring popularity means their music is still played in clubs and at parties worldwide. Jean Patrick-Baptiste, an original member, continues to perform. The group’s work has been covered by other artists, including N-Trance, Sway, Hype, Army of Lovers, and The Young Professionals. Ottawan maintains an active performance schedule, with shows in various international locations.
