Patterson Hood is a celebrated American singer-songwriter and co-founder of the influential band Drive-By Truckers. His musical journey began in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where he honed his songwriting skills from a young age. In 1985, while attending college, he formed the band Adam’s House Cat with Mike Cooley. The group gained regional acclaim, winning Musician Magazine’s Best Unsigned Band competition, showcasing Hood’s early talent and potential in the music industry.
Following the dissolution of Adam’s House Cat, Hood and Cooley established the Drive-By Truckers in 1996. The band quickly made a name for itself with their unique blend of country and rock & roll, releasing their debut album, Gangstabilly, in 1998. The Drive-By Truckers have since produced a remarkable discography, including critically acclaimed albums like Southern Rock Opera and American Band, solidifying their status as a cornerstone of Southern rock music.
In addition to his work with the Truckers, Hood has pursued a successful solo career, releasing three solo albums, starting with Killers and Stars in 2004. His solo work showcases his versatility as an artist, with poignant storytelling and a distinct sound that resonates with fans. Notably, his 2012 album, Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance, further established him as a formidable solo artist.
