Peter Cat Recording Co. is an innovative Indian alternative rock band that emerged from Delhi in 2009. Initially a solo project of vocalist and guitarist Suryakant Sawhney, the band quickly evolved into a quintet with the addition of talented local musicians. Their debut album, “Sinema,” released on January 1, 2011, showcased a unique blend of jazz, cabaret, and pop, propelling them into the mainstream music scene. The album’s successful launch at a house party in Delhi marked the beginning of their journey, with a promotional tour that included performances in major cities across India.

In 2012, the band followed up with “Wall of Want,” an album of raw demos and experimental recordings. This period saw the introduction of guitarist Kartik Sundareshan, who brought fresh energy to the group. The band continued to innovate, organizing secret house concerts and expanding their musical repertoire, which included the incorporation of trumpet into their sound. Their 2015 album, “Climax,” further solidified their reputation, featuring self-produced music videos and a nationwide tour that showcased their dynamic performances.

After a brief hiatus, Peter Cat Recording Co. returned with “Portrait of a Time: 2010 – 2016” in 2018, marking a new chapter in their career. The band underwent lineup changes, welcoming new members Rohit Gupta and Dhruv Bhola, which revitalized their creative direction. Their latest LP, “Bismillah,” released in 2019, was met with critical acclaim and followed by extensive touring across India, Europe, and Australasia.

Most recently, the band announced their upcoming album “BETA बेटा,” set to release on August 9, 2024. This album promises to explore themes of the future through a nostalgic lens, featuring contributions from all current members. To promote the album, they will embark on the “Good Luck BETA ’24” tour, spanning North America, India, and Europe, showcasing their evolution as artists and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
