Pomme

Claire Pommet, known professionally as Pomme, was born on August 2, 1996, in Décines-Charpieu, France. Her early life involved significant musical immersion, beginning music theory lessons at age 6, joining the children’s choir La Cigale de Lyon at 7, and learning cello at 8. Her mother is a flutist, and her father, a real estate agent, introduced her to a diverse range of artists including Michel Polnareff, Serge Reggiani, Charles Aznavour, and American folk and country music. These early influences shaped her artistic development. She also self-taught various musical skills and utilized YouTube to share her work during her formative years. Her stage name, “Pomme,” meaning “apple” in French, originated from a university nickname derived from her last name.

Pomme’s professional career began to take shape in early 2015 when she was signed by Polydor Records. She subsequently released her debut extended play (EP) *En cavale* in January 2016, following her debut single “J’suis pas dupe” in June 2015. This EP received positive feedback and was supported by music videos and live performances. In September 2017, at the age of 21, she performed her first solo show in Paris at La Boule Noire. Her debut studio album, *À peu près*, released in October 2017, blended pop and folk, earning critical acclaim, despite Pomme herself expressing some frustration with it later, feeling it was more about pleasing others than her own artistic vision. Her career progressed with opening acts for artists like Asaf Avidan, Louane, and Vianney, leading to performances at significant venues such as Café de la Danse, La Cigale, and La Trianon in Paris.

In 2019, Pomme released her second studio album, *Les failles*, which marked her first project to reach the top 10 in France. This album, which she described as reflecting “absolute truth and humility,” was conceived during a period of personal reflection on a breakup. The reissue, *Les failles cachées*, appeared a year later. Her work *Les failles* earned her the Victoires de la Musique award for “newcomer album of the year” in February 2020. She was also crowned “female artist of the year” at the Victoires de la Musique in 2021. In January 2022, she collaborated with Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora on the single “Everything Matters” and later that year released her third studio album, *Consolation*. In 2024, she collaborated with Japanese folk artist Ichiko Aoba on two tracks and released her new album, *Saisons*.
