Preoccupations is a Canadian post-punk band known for their distinctive musical style and consistent album releases. After self-releasing their debut EP, ‘Cassette’, in 2013, the ensemble known today as Preoccupations swiftly gained industry recognition. The EP, showcasing the distinctive post-punk vocals, psychedelic harmonies, and noise-addled punk of members Matt Flegel (vocals, bass), Scott Munro (guitar, synth), Daniel Christiansen (guitar), and Mike Wallace (drums), was reissued on vinyl by Mexican Summer in 2014, the same year the band performed at the renowned SXSW festival and signed with Canadian record label Flemish Eye. Building on this momentum, the group released their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Viet Cong’, in 2015 through a partnership between Jagjaguwar and Flemish Eye.
Looking ahead, Preoccupations has announced their highly anticipated fifth album, ‘Ill At Ease’, slated for release in 2025. This upcoming project continues their legacy of impactful musical contributions and promises to further expand their artistic reach, maintaining their consistent presence and influence within the independent music scene. The band’s sustained success across multiple album cycles and significant touring underscores their enduring appeal and artistic integrity.
