About

Loverboy, a renowned Canadian rock band formed in 1979 in Calgary, Alberta, has made a significant impact on the music scene with their energetic sound and memorable hits. The band, consisting of lead singer Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, keyboardist Doug Johnson, bassist Scott Smith, and drummer Matt Frenette, quickly rose to fame after signing with Columbia Records Canada. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1980, became a massive success, selling over one million copies in Canada and two million in the U.S., featuring iconic singles like “Turn Me Loose” and “The Kid Is Hot Tonite.”

Throughout the 1980s, Loverboy solidified their status as arena rock staples, releasing multiple multi-platinum albums, including the chart-topping “Get Lucky” in 1981, which reached No. 7 on the Billboard album charts and sold over four million copies. The album featured the hit “Working for the Weekend,” which remains a classic rock favorite. Their impressive accolades during this period included six Juno Awards in a single year, a record that still stands.

After a brief hiatus in the late 1980s, the band reunited in 1991 and continued to tour extensively, releasing compilation albums and new material. Their resilience and dedication to their craft were evident as they celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2005, performing across North America and releasing a live album in tribute to their late bassist, Scott Smith.

In recent years, Loverboy has continued to thrive, releasing new singles and albums, including “Unfinished Business” in 2014 and “Release” in 2022. Their enduring appeal is showcased through their ongoing tours with legendary bands like REO Speedwagon and Styx, proving that Loverboy remains a vital force in the rock music landscape.
