Quiet Riot, an iconic American heavy metal band, emerged from Los Angeles in 1973, founded by the talented guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni. The band quickly gained traction in the hard rock scene, evolving through various lineups and styles. Their breakthrough came in 1983 with the release of “Metal Health,” which made history as the first heavy metal album to top the Billboard album chart. This landmark achievement was bolstered by hit singles like “Cum On Feel the Noize” and “Metal Health (Bang Your Head),” showcasing the band’s ability to blend catchy melodies with powerful riffs.
The band’s success continued with the lineup of lead vocalist Kevin DuBrow, guitarist Carlos Cavazo, bassist Rudy Sarzo, and drummer Frankie Banali. This configuration not only solidified their sound but also led to extensive touring, including opening for major acts like ZZ Top and Black Sabbath. Their follow-up album, “Condition Critical,” while not as commercially successful, still demonstrated their resilience and commitment to their craft, selling over a million copies and featuring another hit with “Mama Weer All Crazee Now.”
Despite facing challenges, including lineup changes and the tragic loss of key members, Quiet Riot has shown remarkable adaptability. The band reformed multiple times, with DuBrow leading the charge until his untimely passing in 2007. Frankie Banali’s leadership post-DuBrow ensured the band’s legacy continued, with new members like Jizzy Pearl and Johnny Kelly joining to keep the spirit of Quiet Riot alive.
In recent years, Quiet Riot has embraced their rich history while looking forward, releasing new music and touring extensively. The return of Rudy Sarzo in 2021 marked a significant moment, reuniting the classic members and allowing the band to celebrate their 40th anniversary of “Metal Health” in 2023.
