Read Southall Band

Read Southall Band, later rebranded as Southall, originated in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The band was formed by Read Southall, a native of Blair, Oklahoma. Their initial lineup included Read Southall on lead vocals, John Tyler “J.T.” Perry on lead guitar and backing vocals, Reid Barber on drums, Jeremee Knipp on bass, Braxton Curliss on keyboards, and Ryan Wellman on rhythm guitar. The group is recognized for its contributions to the Oklahoma red dirt music scene.

The band released their first record, “Six String Sorrow,” in 2015. This album marked the debut of the core sextet. Progression continued with subsequent releases, including “Borrowed Time” in 2017. In 2021, they issued “Rose Gold” as the lead single for their album “For the Birds,” which was released in October of the same year. This period saw the band refining their sound and expanding their audience.

A significant turning point occurred in 2023 with the release of their self-titled album, “Southall.” This album was produced by Eddie Spear. During 2023, the band also opened for Blackberry Smoke on a European tour. The rebranding to “Southall” aimed to emphasize the collective identity of the group rather than solely its frontman. This reflected a shift towards a more collective artistic focus, building on their established presence in the country rock genre.
