Sarah Connor

Born Sarah Marianne Corina Lewe on June 13, 1980, in Delmenhorst, Germany, Sarah Connor developed an early passion for music. Influenced by her paternal grandfather, a jazz and R&B pianist, she was exposed to soul music from a young age and began singing in a church choir at six. Her early experiences honed her vocal talents, including participating in musicals and attending a performing arts school where she studied dancing, singing, and acting. A pivotal moment in her early career came in 1997 when she and her sister were selected to sing in the backing choir for Michael Jackson’s HIStory World Tour in Bremen, Germany. This experience solidified her determination to pursue a professional music career.

Connor’s professional journey began with recording demo tapes under the pseudonym Sarah Gray. In 1999, she provided lead vocals for Marc van Linden’s trance remix of “The Last Unicorn,” which charted in Germany. In 2000, she signed with Sony subsidiary X-Cell Records, adopting the stage name Sarah Connor. Her debut single, “Let’s Get Back to Bed – Boy!” (2001), achieved significant success in Germany, reaching the top five. This was followed by “French Kissing” and her breakthrough ballad, “From Sarah with Love,” which became a number-one hit in Germany, Poland, Portugal, and Switzerland. Her debut album, “Green Eyed Soul” (2001), debuted at number two on the German albums chart and achieved platinum status in Germany and Finland, earning her a Goldene Europa and an Echo Music Prize for Best National Rock/Pop Female Artist.

Throughout the 2000s, Connor released a series of successful albums, including “Unbelievable” (2002), “Key to My Soul” (2003), and “Naughty but Nice” (2005), with several singles reaching number one in Germany, such as “Music Is the Key,” “Just One Last Dance,” “Living to Love You,” and “From Zero to Hero.” Her international presence expanded with the compilation album “Sarah Connor” (2004), featuring “Bounce,” which charted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Beyond her music career, she gained further public recognition through the ProSieben reality television series “Sarah & Marc in Love” (2005) and “Sarah & Marc Crazy in Love” (2008), documenting her personal life. She later served as a judge on the German “X Factor” (2010-2012) and a coach on “The Voice of Germany” (2021), demonstrating her sustained influence in the entertainment industry. In 2015, her first German-language album, “Muttersprache,” became her second chart-topping album, cementing her status as one of Germany’s most successful vocalists with over seven million albums sold worldwide.
