Single Mothers is a dynamic Canadian punk rock band that emerged from London, Ontario in 2008, founded by Andrew Thomson. The band quickly made a name for itself with the release of two EPs, ‘Wild Party’ in 2010 and a self-titled EP in 2011, the latter through Secret Voice, an imprint of Deathwish Inc. Their energetic performances and relatable themes resonated with audiences, leading to a successful headlining tour across the U.S. in 2012, as well as supporting acts like Pianos Become the Teeth and Title Fight.
After a brief hiatus during which Thomson pursued solo projects and gold prospecting, he reunited with Single Mothers in 2013. This marked a pivotal moment for the band as they began crafting their debut studio album, ‘Negative Qualities,’ which was released in 2014. The album was well-received, earning a Juno nomination and showcasing Thomson’s insightful lyrics that explore themes of small-town life, relationships, and societal issues. The band supported the album with a North American tour, further solidifying their presence in the punk rock scene.
In 2017, Single Mothers released their second full-length album, ‘Our Pleasure,’ through Dine Alone Records, which was promoted with engaging music videos for tracks like ‘Leash’ and ‘People Are Pets.’ Their commitment to evolving their sound and connecting with fans continued with subsequent releases, including ‘Through A Wall’ in 2018 and ‘Everything You Need’ in 2022.
With a reputation for powerful live performances and thought-provoking lyrics, Single Mothers has established itself as a significant force in the punk rock genre. Their latest album, ‘Roy,’ released in 2023, further exemplifies their artistic growth and dedication to their craft, ensuring that they remain a vital part of the contemporary music landscape.
