The Vaccines, an indie rock band, was formed in West London in 2010 by Justin Hayward-Young (lead vocals, guitars) and Freddie Cowan (lead guitar). The current lineup includes Árni Árnason (bass, vocals), Timothy Lanham (guitars, keys, vocals), and Yoann Intonti (drums). Their career began with critical recognition, including their debut single “If You Wanna” being named ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe in 2010. Their debut album, “What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?” (2011), became the best-selling debut album of 2011 in the UK. This early success positioned them as a notable presence in the indie rock scene.
Over the years, The Vaccines have released five more studio albums: “Come of Age” (2012), “English Graffiti” (2015), “Combat Sports” (2018), “Back in Love City” (2021), and “Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations” (2024). These albums have consistently charted well, with “Come of Age” reaching number one in the UK album chart and “Back in Love City” becoming their fifth consecutive top 5 album. The band has maintained a consistent touring schedule, opening for major acts such as The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Muse. They have also made appearances at international festivals, further establishing their global presence.
Key career milestones include a nomination for an MTV Award for ‘Best New Band of 2011′ and a Critics’ Choice Brit Award. They have been recognized with awards such as ‘Best New Band’ at the NME Awards in 2012. Additionally, the band composed and performed the theme tune for the BBC series “Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed!” in 2017 and collaborated with Kylie Minogue on a song for the “Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” trailer in 2019. In 2023, founding member Freddie Cowan amicably departed, with Timothy Lanham taking over lead guitar duties and Matt Hitt joining as a touring musician.
