The band's first club dates led to a record deal with the revered Daptone label; their first singles racked up more than ten million streams in a year and led to their debut album release.
Thee Sacred Souls formed in April 2019 in San Diego, California. The trio consists of bassist Sal Samano, drummer Alex Garcia, and singer Josh Lane. Garcia and Samano initially met in 2018, playing in an instrumental oldies band. Lane joined the group a few months later as the vocalist. Their musical style draws inspiration from Chicano soul, gospel, doo-wop, and oldies music. The band started by performing live at local venues in San Diego.
After their second live performance, Bosco Mann invited Thee Sacred Souls to record music at Daptone Records’ Penrose Studios in Riverside, California. The band released their debut single, “Can I Call You Rose?”, on March 18, 2020. This song was the first track created by the trio. Work on their self-titled debut album, “Thee Sacred Souls,” began in 2019 and concluded in 2022. The album was released on August 26, 2022, through Daptone Records, following the release of a music video for their song “Easier Said Than Done” on June 15, 2022.
Thee Sacred Souls have achieved significant milestones in their career since their formation. The band’s initial singles accumulated over ten million streams within a year. Their debut album received “universal acclaim” with a Metacritic score of 84 out of 100. They performed “Easier Said Than Done” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on November 30, 2022. The group has toured extensively in North America and Europe, playing sold-out headline shows. They have also opened for notable artists such as St. Paul and The Broken Bones in 2022, and Portugal. The Man and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats throughout 2023. Their album “Thee Sacred Souls” was recognized by KCRW as one of the 22 Best Albums of 2022.
