About

Travis Landon Barker was born on November 14, 1975, in Fontana, California. His musical journey began at an early age when his mother gifted him his first drum kit at four. Showing a natural aptitude, he pursued drum and trumpet lessons and was involved in various school music programs, including jazz ensemble and marching band. Despite other interests like surfing and skateboarding, drumming remained his primary focus and means of expression. A significant turning point in his early life occurred when his mother, already diagnosed with Sjögren syndrome, passed away just before he started high school. She encouraged him to continue pursuing his musical dreams, a sentiment that profoundly influenced his dedication.

Barker’s professional career began in the mid-1990s after high school, working as a trash man and playing with local bands. He joined the ska punk group The Aquabats in 1996, eventually adopting the nickname “Baron Von Tito.” His exceptional drumming skills quickly caught the attention of other bands, leading to his pivotal role as a fill-in drummer for Blink-182 in 1998. He learned their 20-song setlist in just 45 minutes, impressing the band and becoming a permanent member. This marked the beginning of his rise to mainstream success, starting with Blink-182’s 1999 album, “Enema of the State,” which sold over 15 million copies worldwide and established him as “punk’s first superstar drummer” according to Rolling Stone. His unique style, blending punk rock intensity with drumline rudiments and hip-hop influences, became a defining characteristic of his sound, making him an in-demand collaborator across multiple genres.

Beyond his work with Blink-182, Barker expanded his musical endeavors and entrepreneurial ventures. He co-founded the rock band +44, was a member of the rap rock group Transplants, and frequently collaborated with artists across hip-hop, alternative rock, pop, and country genres. In 1999, he established his clothing company, Famous Stars and Straps, followed by LaSalle Records in 2004 and DTA Records in 2019. He also starred in the MTV reality series “Meet the Barkers” from 2005 to 2006. A life-altering event occurred in 2008 when he survived a plane crash, which led him to significant lifestyle changes, including becoming vegan and overcoming a painkiller addiction. He released his debut solo album, “Give the Drummer Some,” in 2011 and continues to produce music and engage in diverse projects.
