William DuVall’s career ascent began after he co-wrote the Billboard Hot 100 hit ‘I Know’ for Dionne Farris in 1994, a track that peaked at No. 4 and earned him an ASCAP Pop Music Award in 1996. Prior to this breakthrough, DuVall had established himself in the Atlanta hardcore punk scene, co-founding the influential Neon Christ in 1983 as its guitarist and lyricist. Neon Christ gained popularity through East Coast tours and released two albums.
DuVall continued his contributions to Alice in Chains, releasing ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ in 2013 and ‘Rainier Fog’ in 2018, contributing lead vocals and songwriting to tracks including ‘Last of My Kind’ and ‘So Far Under.’ As a member of Alice in Chains, he has garnered three Grammy Award nominations. in 2016, DuVall also became lead vocalist for the supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, releasing the album ‘Broken Lines.’ His guitar prowess was recognized in 2018 when he was tied at No. 10 on Total Guitar/MusicRadar’s ’15 best rock guitarists in the world right now’ poll.
