About

Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, known professionally as YG, was born on March 9, 1990, in Compton, California. His early life in Compton, specifically on the 400 block of West Spruce Street, influenced the name of his 4Hunnid brand. YG began his music career by releasing mixtapes such as “4Fingaz” in 2008 and “The Real 4Fingaz” in 2009. The latter featured “Toot It and Boot It,” which gained significant traction, peaking at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving platinum certification from the RIAA. This early success led to his signing with Def Jam Recordings in October 2009. In 2011, he was recognized as part of XXL’s Freshmen Class, a platform that highlights emerging hip-hop artists.

YG’s career saw a significant turning point in 2013 when he partnered with Jeezy’s CTE World label. This collaboration preceded the release of his debut studio album, “My Krazy Life,” in 2014. The album featured hit singles like “My Nigga” (featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan), which reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Who Do You Love?” (featuring Drake). “My Krazy Life” debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and received positive critical reviews. He continued to release successful albums, including “Still Brazy” (2016), which explored political themes and garnered critical acclaim, and “Stay Dangerous” (2018), which included the top 20 hit “Big Bank” (featuring 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj). His albums “4Real 4Real” (2019) and “My Life 4Hunnid” (2020) also charted within the Billboard 200’s top ten. YG has also ventured into acting, with roles in films like “White Boy Rick” (2018) and “Good Mourning” (2022), and has made numerous appearances in music videos for his own tracks and collaborations.

Beyond music, YG established his 4Hunnid brand, which began as a clothing line and later evolved into 4Hunnid Records. In August 2016, 4Hunnid Records secured a distribution deal with Interscope Records and Empire Distribution, further expanding his entrepreneurial footprint. His recent musical endeavors include collaborative albums “Kommunity Service” (2021) with Mozzy and “Hit Me When U Leave the Klub: The Playlist” (2023) with Tyga, both of which were released independently. YG has also engaged in activism, notably with his protest track “FTP (Fuck the Police)” and participation in a Black Lives Matter protest in Hollywood in 2020. In addition to music and fashion, he has announced plans to launch a supplement brand called Trim in 2025, following the release of his male enhancement supplement, Cherry Bomb, in 2024.
