Young Fathers

Young Fathers is a Scottish progressive hip hop group known for their Mercury Prize-winning debut album and multiple Scottish Album of the Year Awards. After signing with LA-based label Anticon in 2012, Young Fathers, the progressive hip hop group consisting of Alloysious Massaquai, Kayus Bankole, and Graham ‘G’ Hastings, released their critically acclaimed mixtapes ‘Tape One’ and ‘Tape Two.’ The latter, ‘Tape Two,’ went on to win the prestigious Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2013. The group further solidified their burgeoning career by signing with Big Dada, through which they released their debut album, ‘Dead,’ in 2014. ‘Dead’ garnered significant critical attention and was subsequently awarded the coveted Mercury Prize in 2014, entering the UK albums chart at number 35 and notably topping the independent UK album chart upon its release.

This release secured their third Scottish Album of the Year Award, earned them three Brit Award nominations, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize, underscoring their consistent critical acclaim and commercial resonance. Looking ahead, the group is set to expand their cinematic contributions, having been commissioned to compose the original score for the horror film ’28 Years Later,’ slated for release in May 2025, marking a significant step into film composition.
