Little Texas was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1988. The band’s original lineup included Porter Howell (lead guitar, vocals), Del Gray (drums), Dwayne O’Brien (rhythm guitar, vocals), Duane Propes (bass guitar, vocals), Tim Rushlow (rhythm guitar, vocals), and Brady Seals (keyboards, vocals). Before forming Little Texas, members Tim Rushlow and Dwayne O’Brien played together in Arlington, Texas, starting in 1984. Similarly, Porter Howell and Duane Propes connected during high school in 1983 and later moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. Del Gray and Brady Seals played in the backup band for country singer Josh Logan. The initial members gained experience performing at Opryland as a 1950s show band called “The Varsities” before coalescing into Little Texas with a focus on country and Southern rock.
Little Texas signed with Warner Bros. Records Nashville in 1991. Their debut album, “First Time for Everything,” was released that same year, generating five singles that consistently charted in the Top 20 on the U.S. Billboard country singles charts. Their second album, “Big Time” (1993), achieved double platinum certification and featured their only number one hit on Billboard, “My Love.” The band continued to achieve success with their third album, “Kick a Little” (1994), which was certified platinum. Throughout this period, Little Texas became recognized for blending classic rock influences with country music, touring extensively with approximately 300 dates per year.
Following personnel changes, including Brady Seals’ departure in 1994 and a subsequent hiatus after their self-titled fourth album in 1997, the band reunited in 2004. The current lineup features Del Gray, Porter Howell, Dwayne O’Brien, and Duane Propes. Porter Howell assumed lead vocal duties starting in 2007. Since their reunification, Little Texas has released additional studio and live albums, continuing to tour and perform their catalog of hits. In 2022, they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album, marking three decades in the music industry.
