Aaron Charles Donald was born on May 23, 1991, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Growing up in a working-class family, Donald was introduced to rigorous workouts by his father at a young age, which instilled discipline and a strong work ethic. He attended Penn Hills High School, where he excelled in football, earning first-team All-State Class AAAA honors in his final two seasons. Donald continued his football career at the University of Pittsburgh, where he became one of the most decorated defensive players in college football history.
Donald’s collegiate career at Pittsburgh saw him accumulate numerous accolades. As a true freshman in 2010, he played in all 13 games as a reserve defensive end. By his sophomore year in 2011, he became a starter, recording 47 tackles, 16 for loss, and 11 sacks, earning second-team All-Big East Conference selection. His performance continued to improve, leading to first-team All-Big East honors in 2012 with 64 tackles and 5.5 sacks. His senior season in 2013 was particularly stellar, with 59 tackles, a career-best 28.5 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. This standout year earned him the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award, unanimous All-American honors, and prestigious national awards such as the Lombardi Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Outland Trophy.
Following his distinguished college career, Donald was selected by the St. Louis Rams as the 13th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He quickly made an impact, earning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and a Pro Bowl selection in his inaugural season.
