6’ 5” Adam Ottavino is an American baseball pitcher who has starred for major MLB teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Colorado Rockies. In November 2021, he chose to become a free agent after helping the Red Sox to the American League Champions Series. In the 11 years since his MLB debut, he has compiled a 32-31 win record and achieved a career ERA of 3.60.
Ottavino is a New York City boy, born in Manhattan in 1985 and raised in Brooklyn. His baseball pitching skills came to the fore during his tenure at Northeastern University where he was named the American East Conference’s Pitcher of the Year. After graduation, he announced himself for the 2006 MLB Draft. He was picked by the Tampa Bay Rays but chose not to sign and was subsequently picked by the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent the next four years honing his game with their minor-league affiliates before finally being added to the Cardinals roster and making his debut for them in May 2010.
In 2012, Ottavino moved to the Colorado Rockies where he enjoyed some of the best form of his career, earning multi-million-dollar contracts and posting exceptionally low ERAs. He also set a club record of 37 scoreless appearances with 31 innings pitched. In 2019, the New York Yankees tempted him away from Colorado with a $27 million three-year contract. In January 2021, after nearly 100 games for the Yankees, Ottavino moved to the Red Sox where he struck out 71 batters in just 62 innings.
