About

Alois Terry Leiter was born on October 23, 1965, in Toms River, New Jersey. He developed his baseball skills at Central Regional High School, where he achieved notable feats, including pitching consecutive no-hitters and a 32-strikeout game. Leiter was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 1984 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut as a starting pitcher for the Yankees on September 15, 1987, securing a win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Leiter’s career progressed with several teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins, and New York Mets, before returning to the Yankees. He earned two World Series rings with the Blue Jays in 1993 and another with the Marlins in 1997. In 1996, while with the Marlins, he pitched the franchise’s first no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies and was selected for his first All-Star team. As a New York Met, Leiter achieved a career-high 17 wins in 1998 with a 2.47 ERA. He received the Roberto Clemente Award in 2000 for his community involvement. In 2002, he became the first Major League pitcher to defeat all 30 teams.

Following his retirement from playing in 2006, Leiter embarked on a broadcasting career, working as a color commentator and studio analyst for Fox, YES Network, and MLB Network, earning multiple Emmy nominations and awards for his work. In March 2019, he joined the Mets as a baseball operations advisor, focusing on scouting, player development, and mental preparation for pitchers. Leiter is also actively involved in charitable work through his ‘Leiter’s Landing’ foundation and has held positions in New Jersey politics, serving on Governor Chris Christie’s transition team and the New Jersey Sports, Gaming, and Entertainment Committee.
