Aldis Hodge was born on September 20, 1986, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. His parents, Aldis Basil Hodge and Yolette Evangeline Richardson, both served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He began his career at the age of three, appearing in a print ad for Essence magazine alongside his brother, Edwin Hodge. This early start led to further work in print ads and commercials. Hodge transitioned to screen and stage, appearing on “Sesame Street” and joining the Tony-winning Broadway revival of “Showboat.” His early film roles included “Die Hard with a Vengeance” (1995), “Bed of Roses” (1996), and “Big Momma’s House” (2000). He also cultivated interests outside of acting, including writing scripts, designing luxury timepieces, and pursuing art and painting.
Hodge gained wider recognition for his role as Alec Hardison in the TNT series “Leverage” from 2008 to 2012, a performance that earned him a Saturn Award nomination in 2009. His career progressed with notable appearances in major films such as portraying MC Ren in “Straight Outta Compton” (2015), which received an Oscar nomination and won an NAACP Award. In 2016, he starred as Levi Jackson in “Hidden Figures,” a film that garnered three Oscar nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, and a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. He continued his television work with the WGN series “Underground” (2016-2017) as Noah. Later, Hodge took on the lead role of Brian Banks in the 2018 biographical film “Brian Banks” and Decourcy Ward in Showtime’s “City on a Hill” from 2019 to 2022.
In recent years, Hodge has taken on significant roles, including Jim Brown in the critically acclaimed film “One Night in Miami…” (2020), which earned him a Robert Altman Award. He also joined the DC Extended Universe as Carter Hall/Hawkman in “Black Adam” (2022) and voiced Green Lantern John Stewart in animated features like “Green Lantern: Beware My Power” (2022) and the “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths” series (2024). His latest prominent role is portraying Alex Cross in the Prime Video series “Cross” (2024), where he also serves as a producer. Beyond his acting, Hodge continues his passion for watchmaking with his luxury brand, A. Hodge Atelier, and works to promote diversity within the horology industry.
