Sergiu Toma is a Moldovan-born Emirati judoka and Olympic medalist who has competed for both Moldova and the United Arab Emirates. He is known for his bronze medal achievement at the 2016 Rio Olympics. After securing an historic bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, Sergiu Toma became a celebrated Emirati judoka, a significant milestone that marked the United Arab Emirates’ first Olympic medal in Judo. Competing in the highly competitive 81 kg category, Toma demonstrated exceptional skill by defeating formidable opponents, including Japan’s Takanori Nagase to reach the semi-finals, and ultimately securing his podium finish by overcoming Matteo Marconcini.
