Born on June 2, 1997, in Toronto, Canada, Alejandro Tabilo Álvarez later chose to represent Chile, the country of his parents. His father, Ricardo, from Antofagasta, settled in North America in 1988, where he met his mother, María, from San Felipe. Tabilo obtained dual nationality and first traveled to Santiago at 18 for a tennis competition, which led to him moving to Chile permanently at 19, with the ambition of playing for the nation.
