Kid Galahad, whose birth name is Abdul-Bari Awad, was born on March 3, 1990, in Doha, Qatar. His family relocated to England when he was four, initially living in Liverpool before settling in Sheffield. At the age of thirteen, he began his boxing training with Brendan Ingle, a decision influenced by a desire to avoid negative street influences. His professional boxing career commenced on September 5, 2009, with a points victory over Delroy Spencer at the Colosseum in Watford, England. He continued to build his record, securing his first stoppage victory on May 21, 2010, against Dougie Curran by TKO in the second round.
Galahad’s career saw significant progression as he accumulated an undefeated record. On February 18, 2012, he claimed his first major title, the WBC International super-bantamweight championship, by defeating Jason Booth via unanimous decision in Rotherham. He successfully defended this title against Josh Wale before vacating it. He then went on to win the BBBofC British super-bantamweight title against James Dickens in September 2013 and later secured the European super-bantamweight championship by defeating Sergio Prado in March 2014. In May 2014, he added the Commonwealth super-bantamweight championship to his accolades after Fred Mundraby retired at the end of the fourth round. He further demonstrated his skill by winning the vacant IBF Youth super-bantamweight title against Adeilson Dos Santos in September 2014 via unanimous decision.
After a period of inactivity, Galahad returned to boxing in 2016. He eventually earned a mandatory shot at the IBF Featherweight world title in 2019, narrowly losing a split decision to Josh Warrington. Undeterred, he secured the vacant IBF featherweight title on August 7, 2021, by defeating Jazza Dickens via retirement in the 11th round, marking a significant achievement in his career. His tenure as world champion was brief, as he lost the title to Kiko Martinez in November 2021. His career continued with a match for the IBO lightweight title against Maxi Hughes in September 2022.
