Alessandra Maria-Luigia O Polizzi Di Sorrentino, known professionally as Alex Polizzi, was born on August 28, 1971, in Poplar, London. She comes from a notable family of hoteliers; her mother, Hon. Olga Polizzi, CBE, is the daughter of Lord Forte, and her uncle is Sir Rocco Forte. After reading English at Oxford, Polizzi trained at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong, gaining foundational experience in luxury hospitality. She further honed her skills working for renowned chef Marco Pierre White before joining the family business, The Rocco Forte Collection, with roles in Cardiff, Rome, and St Petersburg. Her early entrepreneurial venture included co-founding Millers Bespoke Bakery, which supplied prestigious retailers such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, and Fortnum & Mason.
Polizzi transitioned into television, becoming widely recognized as the presenter of the Channel 5 series “The Hotel Inspector” since 2008. In this role, she visits struggling British hotels, offering advice and often overseeing renovation projects to help them improve their operations and financial viability. Her television work expanded with the BBC Two series “Alex Polizzi: The Fixer,” which broadened her scope to include turning around various family businesses beyond just hotels. This series, which aired from 2012 to 2015, saw her apply her business acumen to a wider array of enterprises.
Her career includes managing Hotel Endsleigh in Milton Abbot, Devon, owned by her mother. More recently, in 2021, Polizzi and her mother launched “The Polizzi Collection” by renovating and opening The Star in Alfriston, East Sussex, marking their first joint venture. Polizzi has hosted several other television programs, including “Alex Polizzi’s Secret Italy” (2014-2016), “Alex Polizzi: Chefs on Trial” (2015), “Spectacular Spain with Alex Polizzi” (2017), and “Peyton And Polizzi’s Restaurant Rescue” (2018), where she worked alongside her brother-in-law Oliver Peyton. Her commitment to the hospitality industry and business revitalization has positioned her as a respected authority in the field.
