Brian Foster was born on April 3, 1984, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He began his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2006, following the death of his brother. Foster has stated that martial arts helped him channel emotional pain and become a more humble and respectful individual. He often carries a photo of his brother to his fights as a source of motivation. In his early career, Foster fought for Masters of the Cage, where he accumulated a record of 4-2, building an eight-fight winning streak before experiencing a loss.
His career includes notable periods with major promotions. Foster joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2009, making his debut at UFC 103. During his time in the UFC, he earned both “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors. A significant turning point occurred in 2011 when a pre-fight MRI ahead of UFC 129 revealed signs of a brain hemorrhage, leading to his release from the organization. Despite this, a subsequent MRI showed no hemorrhage, allowing him to return to competition post-UFC. He later joined the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) in 2014, where he notably won the WSOF Lightweight Tournament in 2015 by triumphing over João Zeferino in the finals. He also held the VFC Welterweight Championship.
Foster transitioned to the Professional Fighters League (PFL), where he continued to compete in the lightweight and welterweight divisions. His career record reflects a consistent presence in professional combat sports, with 29 wins, 12 losses, and 1 draw in MMA. He has engaged in 41 professional MMA bouts with only one going to a judge’s decision, highlighting his aggressive fighting style. Beyond MMA, Foster has also competed in kickboxing, making his GLORY debut in 2013.
