Alison Ann Sweeney was born on September 19, 1976, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She began her career in television at the age of five, appearing in a Kodak advertisement. Her early acting roles included an appearance in the horror series “Tales from the Darkside” in 1985 and a role in the ABC sitcom “Family Man” in 1988. In 1989, she was cast as Christy McCray in “Brand New Life,” a miniseries for NBC’s “Magical World of Disney.” These formative experiences laid the groundwork for her long-standing presence in the entertainment industry.
Sweeney’s career significantly advanced on January 6, 1993, when she joined the cast of the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives” as Samantha “Sami” Brady. She continued in this role for 21 years, earning a Daytime Emmy Award nomination, four Soap Opera Digest Awards, and a Fan Voted Daytime Emmy Award for her portrayal. Her commitment to the show led her to leave her studies in economics at UCLA. During her tenure, she also appeared in other NBC productions, including “Friends” and “Las Vegas.” In 2007, Sweeney expanded her career by becoming the host of “The Biggest Loser,” a role she maintained for 13 seasons until 2015, where she was able to directly support contestants. She also co-hosted the “Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon” from 2007 to 2010.
Beyond acting and hosting, Sweeney has made contributions as a director and author. She directed episodes of “Days of Our Lives” from 2011 to 2015 and “General Hospital” from 2014 to 2017.
