Jesse Tyler Ferguson

Jesse Tyler Ferguson was born on October 22, 1975, in Missoula, Montana. His family relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was raised. From a young age, Ferguson showed an interest in acting, joining the Albuquerque Children’s Theater at eight years old and remaining a member for six years. He attended St. Pius X High School, actively participating in plays such as “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Li’l Abner,” and was also a member of the speech and debate team, graduating in 1994. After high school, he pursued formal training at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City, which prepared him for a multifaceted career in the entertainment industry.

Ferguson established his career primarily through theatrical work in New York City, making his Broadway debut in “On the Town” in 1998. He originated the role of Leaf Coneybear in the Tony Award-winning production “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and continued to perform in various acclaimed stage productions, including multiple Shakespeare in the Park productions such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2007) and “The Tempest” (2015). A significant career turning point came with his role as Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family,” which ran from 2009 to 2020. This role brought him widespread recognition and earned him five consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In 2022, Ferguson received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in “Take Me Out.” His other notable film appearances include “Untraceable” (2008), “Ice Age: Collision Course” (2016), and “Cocaine Bear” (2023).
