About

Alyssa Milano was born on December 19, 1972, in Brooklyn, New York City, to an Italian-American family. Her mother, Lin Milano, was a fashion designer, and her father, Thomas Milano, worked as a film music editor. Milano’s entertainment career began at age seven after her babysitter took her to an open audition for the national touring company of “Annie.” She was selected from 1,500 girls for the role of July, spending 18 months on tour. Following this, she appeared in off-Broadway productions and television commercials, showcasing her early talent and charisma. In 1983, at the age of 10, Milano achieved a breakthrough when she secured the role of Samantha Micelli, Tony Danza’s daughter, in the sitcom “Who’s the Boss?”. This role necessitated her family’s relocation to Hollywood and established her as a teen idol, opening doors for further opportunities in film and television.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Milano diversified her career beyond “Who’s the Boss?” She appeared in films such as “Commando” (1985) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and branched into a music career in Japan, where her albums achieved platinum status. In the mid-1990s, she took on more mature roles in films like “Fear” (1996) and several erotic thrillers, aiming to shed her child star image. This period also saw her join the cast of “Melrose Place” in 1997 as Jennifer Mancini, and later, receive a leading role in the popular series “Charmed” as Phoebe Halliwell in 1998. She and co-star Holly Marie Combs became producers for “Charmed” during its fifth season, which ran for eight seasons until 2006. Milano has also been a vocal activist, supporting UNICEF for over two decades, advocating for children’s rights, and later becoming a key figure in the #MeToo movement.

Milano’s career in the 2000s and 2010s included commercial work for brands like Veet and Sheer Cover, and appearing in ten episodes of “My Name Is Earl” (2007–2008). She developed her “Touch” line of team apparel for female sports fans, which expanded to Major League Baseball, NFL, and NASCAR. Beyond acting, Milano authored the comic book series “Hacktivist” in 2013, focusing on hacking and global activism. She starred in the drama series “Mistresses” (2013-2014) and hosted “Project Runway: All Stars” for several seasons. Her recent projects include Netflix comedy series “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” (2017) and “Insatiable” (2018-2019), and a Netflix film adaptation of “Brazen Virtue” (2022). Milano released a children’s book series, ‘Hope,’ and her book “Sorry Not Sorry” reflects on her activism. In 2024, she joined UNITED24 as an ambassador in support of Ukraine, underscoring her continued engagement in global advocacy.
