Amber Iman

Amber Iman has transitioned from a celebrated theatrical performer to an active advocate, using her platform to champion equity in the arts. After making her critically acclaimed Broadway debut as Nina Simone in ‘Soul Doctor’ in 2013, earning a Clive Barnes Award nomination, Amber Iman established herself as a formidable talent in the theatrical world. Prior to her Broadway success, Iman made her Off-Broadway debut in June 2012 in ‘Rent’ at New World Stages, having previously toured internationally as a background vocalist for Grammy winner Lauryn Hill. She laid her professional foundation by graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre from Howard University in 2008, followed by regional theatre performances in Atlanta with companies such as the Alliance Theatre and True Colors Theatre Company, starring in productions including ‘Goodnight Moon’, ‘Into the Woods’, and ‘The Colored Museum’.

Beyond her electrifying performances, Iman is a dedicated advocate for equity in the arts, actively using her platform to champion change. She is a founding member of both the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, an organization committed to fostering equity through arts and storytelling, and Black Women on Broadway, which provides vital support for Black women in theatre. Her versatile career also spans television, with an appearance on HBO’s ‘High Maintenance,’ and film, where she has produced award-winning short films, ‘Steve’ and ‘Blackberry Winter,’ demonstrating her diverse capabilities as a creative force.
