Anastasia Surmava is a dynamic figure who transitioned from a prominent role in the yachting industry, including as a chef and stewardess on 'Below Deck Mediterranean,' to an entrepreneur in maritime education and a financial planner.
Anastasia Surmava gained recognition for her work in the yachting industry, specifically as a third stew and chef on “Below Deck Mediterranean” season 4. Before her appearance on the Bravo series, she had experience as a chef on various smaller vessels. Her introduction to yachting came from dating a captain, which sparked her interest in life at sea. During her time on “Below Deck Med,” Anastasia was part of a close-knit team alongside chief stew Hannah Ferrier and second stew Aesha Scott.
Following her yachting career, Anastasia co-founded the Ocean International Training Academy. This initiative provides aspiring yacht crew members with skills and knowledge for a career in the yachting industry. Her involvement in this academy allowed her to contribute to the development of new maritime professionals. In addition to her entrepreneurial endeavors, Anastasia relocated to Vermont and established a new career as a financial planner with Commonwealth Financial Group. She has been building her financial planning practice over the past few years.
Anastasia’s professional path also includes a role as a board member at the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center in Vermont, where she is involved in promoting sailing and maritime education. In her personal life, Anastasia married model Will Higginson and welcomed a daughter, Arabella, in March 2023. Her diverse career progression highlights her adaptability, moving from the operational demands of luxury yachting and culinary arts to educational leadership and financial services.
