The amazing Andres “Dres” Titus is a rapper and actor, best known for being the lead rapper of the alternative Hip Hop duo from Queens, Black Sheep. He penned and delivered the staples of the genre, Strobelite Honey, and The Choice Is Yours (Revisited). He was part of the Native Tongues collective throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, and is now part of the Pool of Genius collective.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, as well as in North Carolina, Dres joined his childhood friend, William “Mista Lawnge” McLean, to form the Hip Hop duo Black Sheep in 1989. Their first appearance together was on De La Soul’s 1991 album De La Soul Is Dead, and their first album, the acclaimed A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, was released the same year. It features the singles Strobelite Honey, and The Choice Is Yours (Revisited), which both went on to become staples of the Hip Hop genre. The pair made a cameo appearance in Ted Demme’s 1993 comedy, Who’s the Man?, and were also the first Hip Hop act to feature on TV’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. However, after the release of their second album, Non-Fiction, in 1994, the duo split to pursue independent projects. In 1999, as Dres the Black Sheep, Dres released the solo album Sure Shot Redemption. Black Sheep briefly reunited in 2000 and released the EP Redlight, Greenlight, as well as the title track of Lawrence Fishburne’s movie, Once in the Life. Dres also played the part of Hector in the film. In 2006, Dres released an online only album, 8WM/Novakane, under the name Black Sheep, which also featured Lawnge on a few tracks.
Dres regularly connects with his legions of followers and fans through Instagram, posting pictures and videos about his life around music. He is also available for that personalised shout-out via the Cameo platform.
