Angela Faye Kinsey was born on June 25, 1971, in Lafayette, Louisiana. At the age of two, her family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where her father worked as a drilling engineer. She spent 13 years there, attending the Jakarta Intercultural School and learning to speak Indonesian. Her family returned to America when she was 14, settling in Texas. Kinsey pursued her higher education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she studied English and graduated in 1993. During her time at Baylor, she also participated in the “Baylor in London” program, affording her exposure to theater in the United Kingdom. Her experiences at university, combined with her earlier immersion in different cultures, laid a diverse foundation for her future career in entertainment.
After college, Kinsey further honed her skills by interning on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” She then moved to Los Angeles, taking improvisation classes with renowned groups such as The Groundlings and Improv Olympic. Her early career involved work in commercials and small television appearances. Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Angela Martin in the American adaptation of “The Office” (2005–2013), a role that garnered her widespread recognition and critical acclaim. This role allowed her to demonstrate her comedic talent across 188 episodes over nine seasons, establishing her as a prominent figure in television comedy.
Beyond “The Office,” Kinsey has expanded her career into various projects as an actress, writer, and producer. Her television work includes roles in “Haters Back Off” (2016–2017), “Never Have I Ever” (2020), and “Better Things” (2022).
