Mark Hamill is a hero to millions for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, one of the most successful film franchises of all time. After starring in the initial trilogy — still considered among some of the greatest films ever made — he continues to feature in successive instalments. A much-in-demand voice actor, he is particularly known for voicing The Joker in the DC Comics’ animated Batman series. He has won many awards for his acting and voice work and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.
After starting his career with several TV roles, Hamill shot to worldwide fame during the summer of 1977 when the first Star Wars film was released, becoming the highest-grossing film of all-time up to that point. Its 1980 sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, is considered to be even better, winning eight Golden Globe Awards. For his part, Hamill won Best Actor at the Saturn Awards. The initial trilogy was completed with the similarly successful Return of the Jedi in 1983. During his ascent, Hamill was also successful on the stage, starring in major Broadway productions like The Elephant Man and Amadeus.
As a voice actor, Hamill has been associated with some of the classic series of comic book culture, including Batman, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Fantastic Four. He has worked on similarly essential video games, including Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, and Wolverine. Never short of work, he has also starred in numerous independent films and TV series, his most recent being the historical drama Knightfall.
